Meg, your friends and family back home probably also mention that the kids in Dallas did not actually even have a clue about why they were there.
Some of the newscasters interviewed them, and they were completely blank about the issue. It was simply a way for them to skip school.
So a lot of Dallas taxpayers were infuriated that they have to pay high taxes for the school districts irrespective of whether they have kids or not, and here these kids are cutting school in a pretense of some concern about the immigration issue.
Incidentally, you would be a good person to ask, what's up with these bishops who are advocating breaking American law to aid illegal immigrants? I'm sure that in most ways these bishops are wonderful people, but where do they come off encouraging their parishoners to fly in the face of American law?
