Margrethe of Denmark says Danes "must show our opposition to Islam"

Interesting. I mean, seriously. Just go read it.

Next thing you know, Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden will declare "holy war", while Harald of Norway recites "Lepanto".

No, not really, but, this is only going to get more interesting. (Interesting being my personal code for "developing, mildly alarming events abroad that may yet reach our shores but which at the moment I may observe in peace".)

We must show our opposition to Islam, says Danish queen

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has called on the country "to show our opposition to Islam", regardless of the opprobium such a stance provokes abroad.

. . . in overtly political passages from an official biography published yesterday Queen Margrethe makes comments certain to complicate her nation's relationship with Muslims.

She said: "We are being challenged by Islam these years - globally as well as locally. It is a challenge we have to take seriously. We have let this issue float about for too long because we are tolerant and lazy.

"We have to show our opposition to Islam and we have to, at times, run the risk of having unflattering labels placed on us because there are some things for which we should display no tolerance."

"And when we are tolerant, we must know whether it is because of convenience or conviction."

I wish you would check your sources - i am no monarchist quite the opposite, so I normally would not defend her. But she did not say what you qoute her for. Please check your source - Do not do like the BBC air something without checking.
The statement on this page is false and would if the Queen would take it to court be slander.

please remove ├Żour posting.

Feel free to read the book in danish - or read what she said about cultures living together in her new years speach.

that the day should come where I defend her - I really couldnt imagine.

The link is in the title of the article referenced, which I pulled the quotes from - it's how I link to articles on my blog. I certainly don't mean to slander HM or spread untruths. This is from the Telegraph, a "broadsheet" British newspaper not known for printing untruths, and it is still up on their site; I would think they'd have been notified and have taken it down if HM objected. However -- I will research this a little and update the item with what I find, probably this evening (my time).

Let me say that at the same time, I think you can show your opposition to radical Islam and still cultivate a tolerant society. Perhaps this might be what HM was talking about? Encouraging Danes to understand what tolerance is and is not? Just a thought.

A variety of sources for this interview could be found in Yahoo!News.
One of this sources is a dispatch from AFP, the French news agency, with the heading "Danish queen warns against rise of Islamic fundamentalism"
