Stop the Insanity: Get-your-papal-hate-on version

So: You've heard about this dumb BBC hit-piece (on the estimable program "Panorama", no less). They just don't even bother to try to hide the anti-Catholic bias anymore, and get the facts wrong in the process - but that's okay, isn't it, as long as it serves The Greater Truth! Because the majority of the people who see the program will receive it, and have their prejudices confirmed, and won't question it.

Sigh.

Anyway, good reax at Ed Peters and Amy Welborn. Ugh. Call me when somebody has some real news, willya?

Hi Meg, I haven't been over here for a while. I hope things are going your way.

My wife and I are back in Dallas. (We were in Granbury, but to my regret, duty calls. We're in a place off Royal. Ha! down at the other end, I think the illegals are learning Korean rather than English.)

I agree with those who believe that this British program coming at this time is an attempt at retaliation and counter-weight for Pope Benedict's brilliant and forceful challenge to Islam.

My view is that the Socialists find it disturbing that the Pope and the American President would be pretty much on the same side of the issue. They simply cannot let that go unanswered. They're as crazy as hell.

Incidentally, if you have any interest in the meltdown going on in the Episcopal Church, have someone from down here mail you the latest "D" magazine. The one with a picture of a female doctor on the cover.

You will find an article under Religion called "The Episcopal Schism Hits Dallas". The Catholic Church isn't the only one with problems.

Incidentally, I am not a Catholic, but I believe that Pope Benedict's defense of the West has earned back a lot of moral ground lost by the pedophile scandals. Nothing can undo the damage that the predator priests did, but I am heartened to see good evidence that the church is seriously moving to remove this problem and is particularly active at the seminary level. And this is at a time when there are too few priests for the number of Catholics in America.

So the church could have continued to try to finesse this issue, but despite the need for priests, they are being extremely rigorous in trying to keep homosexuals out of the priesthood.

One last aside to Canadians who may read this. I have discovered to my surprise that Canadians apparently are not aware of the extent that Catholics and non-Catholics hang out in the US. When I headed for the military, my best friend headed for the priesthood. We hang out. We are friends, we occasionally go to church with each other for the hell of it. This is commonplace, and sometimes Canadians seem to act as if they find this surprising.
